After working for years in the healthcare field, Larry Roofner continued a lifelong interest in wood working and glass. He completed a three year apprenticeship with Karl Kalamaja, a 76 year old German master wood worker. Karl taught Larry to make doors using old world techniques  from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Larry founded Grand Entrance in 1997 , designing and creating custom entryways in hardwoods with mouth-blown glass made in Germany and custom bevels from Seattle.  More than 60 unique doors were built and grace residences in Florida, Tennessee and Chicago.

In 2007, Larry completed an apprenticeship in Virginia with the noted chair maker, Hal Taylor and began making sculptural rocking chairs.
